Official Rules

1.1 Game Format :

The competition will be played using World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) 8-Ball Rules, with specific adaptations outlined below. Matches will be played in a single-elimination or double-elimination format, depending on the number of participants. Each match will be a race to [X] racks (to be determined based on event duration).

1.2 General Rules :

Rack Formation: Standard triangle rack, with the 8-ball in the center and solid/striped balls alternating.

Break Shot: A legal break must send at least four object balls to a cushion OR pocket a ball. If the 8-ball is pocketed on the break, the breaker may either re-rack or spot the 8-ball and continue. A scratch on the break results in ball-in-hand for the opponent behind the headstring.

1.3 Turn and Fouls :

Players must call their shots (except on the break). A legal shot must strike the player’s category (solids or stripes) first and pocket a ball or send a ball to a rail.

Standard fouls include: Failure to hit a legal object ball first. Failure to hit a cushion or pocket a ball after contact. Scratching (cue ball pocketed). Jumping a ball off the table. Double hit or push shot.

1.4 Winning the Game :

A player wins by legally pocketing the 8-ball after clearing their category of balls. If a player pockets the 8-ball early, they lose the game, unless it was on a legal break shot. If the 8-ball is sunk in the wrong pocket or fouled while sinking, the opponent wins.
